One of this year's honorees is Brandi Pottle, a teacher at Maxfield Elementary School. Mrs. Pottle grew up in St. Paul and has been teaching since 2000. She is very passionate about building positive relationships with her students by doing collaborative work and bringing learning cultural experiences to her class.

"Mrs. Pottle exemplifies excellence in education as an educator and community advocate. She is at the forefront of inspiring her scholars to become leaders who think critically and work diligently for the betterment of the community," said Dr. Artika Tyner, founder of PPGJLI.

Founded by Dr. Tyner in 2015, PPGJLI inspires, equips and fosters future leaders through school visits, the arts and humanities, education, workshops and seminars. PPGJLI initiatives encompass read aloud events, book giveaways, youth writing competitions, and teaches about STEAM leadership and careers. PPGJLI has inspired 7,280 students, donated more than 35,000 diverse and multicultural books, and reached over 6,000 children through its Leaders are Readers program.
