MEET THE PRINCIPAL
Ms. Nancy Stachel

As I enter my third year at Maxfield, I am excited about the upcoming school year and the brilliance that I know our students will display.  I truly believe that it takes all of us, school staff, community, and parents working together to guide our students so that they achieve their hopes and dreams.  We all bring expertise and experience to the table.  When we listen to one another, respectfully challenge and support one another, and learn from one another, we give our children the adult role models they need to have.

My background includes over 20 years of experience in urban education within Saint Paul.  I have taught at the elementary and secondary level, at public schools and alternative schools, at culture based schools and magnet schools.  Prior to coming to Maxfield my experiences have included working as a computer teacher, a special education teacher, an assistant principal, principal, and district leader.  At Maxfield I use all of those experiences to work with staff, community, and business partners to deliver a program that will result in high academic achievement, while at the same time developing the whole child.

I encourage you to stop by and visit Maxfield.  You will find that the label of "Priority School" given to us by the State of Minnesota's new rating system does not accurately describe our current reality.  I came to Maxfield in January of 2010 just after the school had been labeled as a "Persistently Low Achieving School" by the State.  Three year's later our students are making gains, our parents are engaged, the community is involved, our staff is exceptional, and our partnerships are strong.  Together we have built a solid foundation for our children.
