MAXFIELDS ACADEMIC PROGRAM
  • Maxfield Magnet School of Academic Excellence serves students in Pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, including all-day kindergarten and School Readiness programs.
  • Maxfield students have Reading and Writing Workshop everyday, developing these skills using nationally proven teaching strategies.
  • Students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade use the district's Everyday Math program, one of the nation's leading math programs from the University of Chicago. Sixth graders also have the opportunity to use the district's middle school math program -- Connected Math, preparing them with the same math program they will later use in middle school. An accelerated math class is available for fifth and sixth graders.
  • Maxfield also features the School-Wide Enrichment Model (SEM) and three after school enrichment programs: Kofi Services, ACES and Area Learning Center (ALC).
  • Maxfield features a full spectrum of services for students with disabilities, providing services both in the regular education classroom and in special education settings.
  • Maxfield Magnet for Academic Excellence serves the individual needs of all children, from those needing help in further developing basic skills to those needing acceleration and additional challenges.

 

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • The school has all-day kindergarten and School Readiness programs.
  • Kofi Services provides outreach services to African American children and their families.
  • Parents/guardians can participate in the school’s PTO and site council.
  • Classrooms are supported by a basic skills teachers.
  • Students wear school uniforms.
