Introduction
Hello, from the school counselor.   My name is Amy Robinson.  This is my first year at Maxfield, but not my first year in education.   I earned my BA in education from the University of Northern Iowa and began my journey as a  special education teacher and then went on to teach fifth grade.  Later, I earned my Masters in Education specializing in school counseling from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls.  After graduation, I became a school counselor at Highland Park Junior High in St. Paul.  For the last few years I was on leave to take care of my own 3 children.
I am a part-time employee at Maxfield.  I work two and half days per week.  My job is to help students with their emotional development so they are able to be successful at school.
My role at the school is primarily divided into 3 tasks.  I teach emotional developmental counseling in each classroom from Kindergarten through grade six.  This curriculum includes the following lesson themes:  Anti-bullying, conflict resolution, identifying feelings, family identification, self awareness, and career counseling.
I lead various support groups for grades K-6.  These groups are focused on a specific theme to meet the students' needs.  Examples of group themes include anger management, school success, self esteem, family change and friendship.
I do see some students on an individual basis to help them cope with any issue or problems they may be experiencing.
Students are referred to me either by their parent or guardian, school personnel, or they may request a visit.
If you have any questions or concerns about your student, please fill free to contact me.
