Reading and Writing Templates

This section contains various Appleworks wordprocessing templates to be used across the curriculum in all grades. Before using the templates read the helpful tips at the below links.

IMPORTANT FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
  • Templates can be opened by students from any school computer with internet access. When a student clicks on a template, he/she actually opens a copy of the template, enters text into it and saves it under his/her own name in the desktop Student Folder.
  • When you first click on the link some computers will open a window that says "Unhandled File Type."  Click on the "Save File As" box, then save the file to the Desktop under whatever name you want. OPEN APPLEWORKS BEFORE YOU OPEN THE FILE. THEN USE APPLEWORKS TO OPEN THE FILE. If you try to open the file first you may get a lot of scrambled code instead of the file.
  • The fields that are a standard part of the template cannot be easily moved or deleted by the student.
  • Students should enter personal information such as their name and grade where indicated. They should not erase the form titles such as "Name:" but type their information after the colon.
  • In response sections where "Type text here" occurs, the student should delete "Type text here" and type in their answer.
  • If you have difficulties with a template please e-mail Mr. Colon, name the template and describe the problem you had.
  • Most templates use standard Times New Roman, 12 point font, with double spacing to facilitate editing.
  • If you want to modify a template for a specific lesson, you can create your own template in Appleworks. Consult Appleworks Help, the below tutorial, or contact Mr. Colon for help.

subject. They are simple word processing documents that contain fields
for basic student identification, a title, and a body of text in
standard paragraph layout.

Drawing and Text Templates

These templates contain a box for a drawing and from five to fifteen lines for text associated with the picture. Students can input text, print, and hand-draw their picture, or use the Draw tools to do their picture on the computer.

One Page Essay and Letter Templates

These templates include text block fields surrounded by decorative borders that will appeal to both older and younger students. They come in both Letter and Essay formats. Students who do not like the borders can use the Basic Writing Templates which have no borders.
