What is Project Kofi?

Project kofi is a culturally specific mental health program developed to increase the positive functioning of African American boys in grades three through six in their homes, schools, and community.

The project was developed in collaboration with Ramsey County Human Services, the Saint Paul Public School District, and the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation.

The Following goals of Project Kofi are to:


  • Improve classroom behavior.


  • Improve behavior at home.


  • Maintain or improve academic performance and attendance in school.


  • Increase parent involvement in their child's education.

    Services

    Project Kofi serves students who attend Rondo Education Center, Maxfield Elementary School, Galtier Magnet School, Daton's Bluff School, and Monroe Community Center.

    Through daily check-ins, weekly support groups, and parent involvement, Kofi staff help the children improve their behavior at home, school, and in the community, and support parents and family functioning.

    Program activities include:


  • Age - appropriate living skills


  • Leisure and recreational activities


  • Individual, group, and family support/counseling


  • Parent involvement in child's school


  • Parent skills/ support
