2009 Gingerbread House Building Extravaganza
What a wonderful day of creating, sticking, licking and eating!  Everyone had a great time and made beautiful houses to take to their families for the holidays.

Welcome to Room 10 Where Children Grow and Learn!
This Kindergarten classroom serves students with specific needs in the area of emotional or behavioral disorders.

Assisted by a classroom team which includes Ms. Monroe, Teacher;  Ms. Valdez, Educational Assistant; and Ms. Schneider, Teacher Assistant 2; Room 10 students are actively engaged in learning across the curriculum.

Students are involved in Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop and Math Workshop, as well as Language Group, Occupational Therapy Group, Social Skills Group, Music Therapy and Adaptive Physical Education.

We utilize a variety of instructional strategies which encourage students to manage themselves and their materials.  In 2008 we started to use stability ball chairs throughout the day to allow for muscle movement, develop core strength,  and increase attention to task.

Making a Friendship Pillowcase
We worked together with the students to make a pillow for them to take home for the summer.  Each student traded a triangle with a friend to make a complete 2 color square.  We ironed the triangles on the pillowcase, sewed them to make sure they were secure with a zigzag stitch, then pinned, sewed using a sewing machine and turned them right side out to make a delightful pillowcase.  Students were able to take home a completed project that required measuring, working with peers and adults, waiting for their turns and courage to take a risk with a new project!

May Day
We had such a great time spreading cheer around Maxfield.  The Room 10 students and staff constructed these beautiful bouquets to brighten every staff person's May Day.

2009 MN Horse Expo Field Trip
Wow!  We had a fantastic day at the MN Horse Expo!  Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this day possible.  The owners and trainers of the horses were very accommodating - they helped us answer our "What do we want to know" questions.  We'll use the answers when we write our informational horse reports!  YeeHaw!  Click on "2009 MN Horse Expo Field Trip" to view some photos of our day.
