Literacy Coach

I am Margaret Blake.  I am the Literacy Coach for K-6 Grade.  I have been in St. Paul Public Schools for 10 years.  

Currently, Maxfield students and staff are well on their way to implementing reader's and writer's workshop through the Project for Academic Excellence. The Project is supported by the St. Paul Public Schools.  Maxfield staff is introducing the new  Literacy Pacing Guides in grades K-6.  We are proud of the reading and writing that our students are doing. Students are reading just right books which will move them as readers. A just right book will challenge students a little, but not frustrate them. Please ask your child what just right book he or she is currently reading.

In writing we are working on our units of study:

Kindergarten - Procedural - How to writing/Cards/ Invitations
First Grade - Procedural Writing - How to writing
Second Grade - Small Moments
Third Grade - Conventions of Writing
Fourth Grade - Realistic Fiction
Fifth Grade - Biography
Sixth Grade - Realistic Fiction

Please ask your child about the writing they are doing in school.  Watch for upcoming publishing parties!  Second Grade is having a publishing party on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the cafeteria.
