ABOUT MAXFIELD
Maxfield Magnet School of Academic Excellence offers a world of opportunities academically and socially. Located in the historical Rondo neighborhood, or what is now the Midway/Frogtown area, Maxfield serves urban learners in Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. The school offers a unique program which combines best practices in every area of study with a focus on the urban learner.
Classroom teachers address varied learning styles and provide students with a safe place to experience success. Highly effective programs like Responsive Classroom teach our children to be responsible and to develop the social skills they will need later in life. It also creates a quiet and respectful environment in which children can focus on learning.
As our name implies, Maxfield is about Excellence. Whether in reading, writing, math, science, or social studies, Maxfield uses the best programs and resources available. Our teachers are trained in the best practices available to their profession. Maxfield is a place of high expectations where every student is seen to have the potential to not only succeed but to excel as well.
Two updated computer labs and technically trained staff ensure that Maxfield students can learn and use technology effectively. Teaching specialists in physical education, global studies and science provide opportunities for students to build upon their strengths and achieve global citizenship. Enrichment specialists of various kinds challenge students to go beyond the expectations of their grade both during and after school. Teachers at Maxfield are lifelong learners and continue to participate in ongoing professional development as a learning community.
Maxfield is, above all, a community of families, professionals, and community partners working together to help our children succeed. We've been in the Rondo neighborhood for over a hundred years, taking our children through many challenges as the City of St. Paul, and even our country, changed. That's why former students now teach at Maxfield or send their children and grandchildren to learn in the same community they did. It's a place where everyone can be involvved. Parents can not only participate in the many family events held throughout the year, but also join our adult volunteers who help students during the school day.
