This Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) 21st Century Community Learning Centers project builds on the district’s success with out-of-school time programming and expands to three additional sites for a total of seven sites. Each school site will partner with a key community agency and a range of other community based organizations to provide quality, intensive, out-of-school-time academic support and enrichment programming. The three sites/ key partners are: 1) Maxfield/Walker West Music Academy; 2) Monroe/West Seventh Community Center; and 3) Vento/Eastside Family Center. These schools will align after school activities, ALC programming, supplemental services, and summer school activities into a comprehensive set of services to meet student and family needs. They will also significantly increase the number of students served through out-of-school time programming and increase the intensity of services students receives. The goals of the project are to: 1) improve school attendance; 2) increase academic achievement in reading and math; and 3) increase student attachment to school. Out-of school-time programming at each school will operate a minimum of three hours each day, four school days per week, during the school year and four hours a day during the summer. The three new school sites all have high poverty rates, receive Title I services and were identified as “not making adequate yearly progress.”
